OOC PREFERENCES:
•CONTACT METHOD: You can get me on Discord (gothmoth#3738) or via journal pm.
•THREAD-JACKING: I’m good with this if everyone else is!
•FOURTH WALLING / CANON PUNCTURE: This is fine, though I’d appreciate a quick heads up! Jason’s previous time in Wonderland involved being told his life is apparently a comic book, so that's not really a surprise. Weird, sure, but accepted as fact.
If your character has interacted with another Jason Todd, you are more than welcome to recognize him. If your character has interacted with Jason in canon and there are events you think he should remember that I as the player may not know - and let’s be real, DC Comics is a goddamn mess and I only have so much time to devote to untangling messes I haven’t personally made - please get in touch so we can discuss! There are some notable differences between the film version and comics canon; the largest among those is probably the fact that Tim Drake apparently never happened, so Jason doesn't come prepackaged with that whole weird and antagonistic relationship with him.
You’re also welcome to recognize/confuse him for his PB (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) or his voice for his VA (Jensen Ackles).
•BACKTAGGING: Absolutely. I find it necessary to backtag, because of my busy schedule, though I do sometimes call a moratorium on old stuff, but I’ll do my best to communicate with you about how a dropped thread may’ve ended. However, please feel free to poke me if you would like me to prioritize a thing, as I’m happy to do so.
•AVOIDED TOPICS: I’m good with pretty much everything, personally; I don’t have strong triggers and I enjoy grimdark subjects. c:
•PREFERRED GENDER PRONOUN: I’m a she!
•OTHER: I’m in US Central time zone, I work a full-time 8-5 day job that is extremely exhausting, and do not reliably have time to tag during work hours. My tag speed is a bit on the slower side, but again, if there’s a thread you’d like me to prioritize, please get in touch and I’ll do my best to accommodate!
IC CHARACTERISTICS:
•ORIGINAL CANON POINT: End of the film, after the explosion he sets off in the abandoned building with Batman and the Joker and himself inside. It’s implied that Jason survives the blast, as he disappears from the scene and the film ends without a resolution to his whereabouts.
Since being taken from Gotham, Jason has been through two other realities, Wonderland and The Village. They both sucked.
•PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Jason is 6’ tall, about 200 lbs of solid muscle, and built like a linebacker from a hell dimension. He’s got dark, perma-messy hair and his eye color is somewhere between blue and green. If you happen to find yourself in a situation to see Jason with his shirt off, he has a lot of old battle scars all over his body. Like, a lot. It’s hard being a vigilante crime-fighter-turned-amateur crime lord, OK. When he’s not wearing his Red Hood getup - which he won’t have here - Jason favors plain, fitting street clothes in dark colors, usually paired with something red (shirt, hoodie, etc.). When he speaks, he sounds like the dulcet tones of Jensen Ackles.
•DEMEANOR: Jason is, in a word, wary of others. He’s not exactly paranoid, but he doesn’t trust easily, either - he has been burned by some pretty significant people in his life (most notably Bruce Wayne, his surrogate father figure and mentor) and it has left him with some deep pain that he is currently Not Dealing With. He projects a certain base level of affability, mostly through dry wit and sarcasm, and he knows how to carry an amicable conversation, but he'll only let people in so far, and he’s a lot like a feral cat - his mood can shift on a moment’s notice. Jason also does not respond well to authority types, and he will have a sassy comeback for just about anything anyone says to him.
•ABILITIES: Despite being a DC Comics character, Jason doesn’t possess any superpowers, per se, though he does have quite a few entirely human talents. He has an impressive physical presence, having been trained - and trained well - in hand-to-hand combat, martial arts, and acrobatics; he is also a skilled marksman and proficient in wielding a number of other weapons, such as knives, throwing stars, and explosives. Jason may not possess a genius-level intellect, but he’s no dummy - he’s been trained in the investigative arts by none other than the world’s (well - this world’s) greatest detective, Bruce Wayne, aka the goddamn Batman. Jason is also quick-thinking under pressure, resourceful, and a decent strategist.
•MEDICAL INFORMATION: Jason is in peak physical condition, in spite of the fact that he was killed - as in, seriously murdered to death - and resurrected through a comic book magic fountain of youth known as the Lazarus Pit. Mentally, though … the boy has some trauma to work through, a lot of which stems from his murder and subsequent resurrection, feelings of betrayal/abandonment, etc. It’s important to note that despite Ra’s’ characterization of Jason returning to life from death “damaged,” he is not insane. All of his actions speak to full - albeit hella misguided - control of his mental abilities.
•OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: The Joker. :c Batman/Bruce Wayne will also be a sore spot for Jason, at least for a while. Outside of that, Jason doesn’t tolerate those who exploit vulnerable populations like children - as an example, as the Red Hood, he threatens immediate death for any drug dealer who operates near schoolyards or deals to children.
IC PERMISSIONS:
•MENTAL: Yes, but let’s talk about what you might find in Jason’s mind and the IC consequences, because he won’t take kindly to it.
•VIOLENCE: Absolutely, though be warned that Jason is well-trained in hand-to-hand combat, martial arts, and a variety of weapons, and he will have no qualms about killing someone who attacks him, if he thinks it's justified.
•MAGIC: You can, but again, he likely won’t take it well and will pursue retribution.
•AFFECTIONATE PHYSICAL CONTACT: You can, if you really want to, but honestly why would you. ?___? Jason isn't used to this; he will find this weird, but he won’t respond violently unless it strays into, like, unwanted groping-below-the-belt territory. Hugging/kissing/etc will go better if it’s from someone he knows, and I’d appreciate a heads up if this is the sort of thing you’d like to plot.
For general shipping reference, I play Jason as being a huge bisexual disaster without any real previous experience in relationships (Jason being film version means I get to skip The Talia Thing ... what the fuck, DC). He probably considers himself mostly attracted toredheads who can kick his ass women with the occasional feelings for dudes, and is completely aware of and OK with this aspect of himself (as much as Jason is ever OK with himself, anyway), but honestly who has time for thinking about things like dating etc. when you're hellbent on revenge? He's incredibly unlikely to initiate anything beyond flirty bantering. Banter is safe. He will not sleep with anyone he doesn't have feelings for and likely leans toward being demisexual.
•OTHER / NOTES: Jason comes with hella content warnings for violence, blood, murder, and death, with a side of possible mentions of historical drug use, though not his own (his mother died of a drug overdose), and childhood domestic abuse (his father is a real piece of work). In addition, he has a mess of unresolved feelings about being brought back from death, and while he’s not actively suicidal, some of his words and actions (trying to strongarm Batman into killing the Joker, saying the only alternative is to kill him instead, then blowing up the building all three of them are still inside) seem to indicate that he would be fine with no longer being alive. I’ll do my best to use subject line warnings if any of these things come up in tags, but if you would like me to steer entirely clear of particular subjects or tagging your character entirely, please leave me a screened comment below and I will make it happen.
